The great crossing

You are not just carrying a baby. You are becoming someone new.

Pregnancy & Motherhood

Pregnancy is often treated as a waiting room — nine months of appointments before the real event. But you are already in it: the rearranging of your body, your relationships, your sense of who you are.

At Women's Den, pregnancy, birth and early motherhood are held as one continuous threshold. The changes begin long before birth and continue long afterwards — through the body, relationships, identity and the everyday reality of becoming a mother. There can be a great deal of attention on the baby during this time. Women's Den makes space for the woman within it too.

You might be feeling

  • Excitement sitting right next to fear
  • Adjusting to a body, identity and daily life that keep changing
  • Information overload and conflicting advice
  • The loneliness that can arrive after the visitors leave
